Cecilia Wins NASA’s LunaRecycle Centennial Challenge

Cecilia is proud to be selected as a winner of NASA’s LunaRecycle Centennial Challenge. Out of a record 1,200 registrants spanning 46 U.S. states and 80 countries, 17 teams received top honors for their ground-breaking solutions. Cecilia’s entry, submitted under the name “Team Plastronauts,” captured one of the Phase 1 Prototype Build awards and a $75,000 prize.

LunaRecycle is NASA’s two‑track, two‑phase competition designed to unlock circular materials solutions for long‑duration missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. The challenge seeks technologies that can transform non‑metabolic waste (e.g. plastic packaging) into mission‑critical resources, reducing reliance on costly resupply flights. Cecilia’s proprietary modular system converts mixed plastic waste into structured carbon materials that could become conductive wiring, radiation shielding or on‑demand spare‑parts feedstock for future lunar bases. More information regarding Phase 2 of the competition will be announced later this summer.
